Ahh, here's the confusion. My apologies. If you are making COLD process soap, you add the oils at trace. If you are making hot process, you add them at the stage when it looks and feels like Vaseline. You would be able to use less that way. For a 2-lb cold process batch, I use .75 ounces, roughly. You could use more, depending on the oil (cinnamon reacts with the lye differently than, say, lemon), but I wouldn't go too much more, given the volatile nature of oils and possible skin irritation (citrus oils can make skin photosensitive).
